Mkhonto XI Soccer Team

Our Under 14 Soccer team of boys from the township was entered into a league last year instead of just playing "friendly" matches, and they now compete on a formalized basis in an "Under 14 League". Unfortunately we do not have a "home ground" so all our games are played away. Things got off to a devastating start when we suffered a 5-1 defeat in our first game. We expected the worst! We couldn’t have been more wrong. We managed 5th place in the league in 2008 which we think was a great achievement.

FOA has bought the kit and boots for all the boys as well as paid all the fees associated with their participation in the league. The kit was bought through the "Greenfields project" an initiative started to develop grassroots soccer. A group of Swedish Businessmen and Women who were attending Gordon Institute of Business Science Development program, under the leadership of one of the group Martin Lindstrom have been the major contributors to the team.

The ongoing costs of running the team are likely to be in excess of R30000 per annum.
